Sarracenia purpurea subsp. purpurea collected from Monroe County in the Pocono region of northeastern Pennsylvania. The northern purpurea form is the classic “low pitcher” Sarracenia rosette forming, close to the ground, and often showing strong reddish-purple tones in mature pitchers, especially in cooler weather. Plants from Monroe County typically reflect the hardiness and compact habit expected of northeastern populations and are prized by collectors who want true provenance from the northern part of the species’ range.
